Manager of the Chandra X-ray Center
Dr. Roger Brissenden has been the Manager of the Chandra X-ray Center since 1993. In 1997 he assumed the additional role of Flight Director or the Chandra mission. He has supervised the development, testing and operation of the Science Center and the Chandra Observatory's Operations Control Center, and as flight director is responsible for the operation of the Chandra mission.
In October of 1999, the Columbia shuttle flight crew presented Brissenden with the coveted "Silver Snoopy Award," the astronaut's own special tribute recognizing his extraordinary "contributions to the success and safety" of the Chandra mission.
Dr. Brissenden graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1985 and was awarded a PhD in Astronomy from the Australian National University in 1990. That year he joined the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory in Cambridge, Massachusetts as Software Scientist for the Chandra Mission. In 1992 he was appointed software manager for the High Energy Astrophysical Division at SAO.
Dr. Brissenden's science interests include broad-band spectral energy distributions of extra-galactic X-ray sources.
