Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 12 June 2009 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Chandra passed through the fourth and fifth eclipses of the 2009 summer eclipse season on June 7 and 9 with nominal power and thermal performance.

A Chandra image release was issued on 9 June in conjunction with the AAS in Pasadena describing observations of the supernova remnant SNR 0104-72.3. The combined Chandra and Spitzer image shows an iron-rich lobe-dominated structure, unlike the more typical circular SNR structures. Possible explanations include a complex surrounding environment or an asymmetric explosion. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2009/snr0104/
