Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 17 February 2017 9.00am EST

During the last week observing schedule was replanned to incorporate an observation of YZ Cnc, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Feb 13. Scheduled observations of spog1557 and NGC2513 were impacted by the replan and will be rescheduled in a future week.

A Chandra press release was issued on Feb 14 describing Chandra and ALMA observations of a galaxy at the heart of the Phoenix Cluster. The radio jets from the black hole at the center of the galaxy appear to be stimulating the production of cold gas in the galaxy's extended halo of hot gas. There is enough cold material in the halo to make about 10 billion suns. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/press/17_releases/press_021417.html

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of GRS 1915+105 coordinated with NuStar, ATCA and the VLT, an observation of Aql X-1 which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Oct 4, and SDSS J140737.16+442856.1 which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Jan 11.
