Chandra Release - October 30, 2019 Visual Description: Chandra Archive Collection The graphic contains six different images made from X-ray and optical light showcasing supernova remnants and star-forming regions in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). Top row, from left to right, the objects included are N103B, LHA 120-N 44, LMC N63A, DEM L71, SNR J0534.2-7033 (DEM L238) and N132D. The dominant colors in the image are shades of purple, blue, and pink, with some pops of red, yellow and orange. The shapes present in the image are irregularly shaped nebulae, which are clouds of gas and dust in space. Some are horseshoe shaped (DEML L71 and N132D), others more spherical (N63A and SNR J0534), one looks like a croissant (N103B), and some are more blobby (N44 and SNR J0534). The key structures in the image are the supernova remnants and star-forming regions. The 6-panel composite image draws from archival Chandra X-ray and Hubble optical data. Together, the array is like a kaleidoscope of stellar birth and death.
