Chandra Sky with Google Earth

Along with the Hubble Space Telescope and Spitzer Space Telescope, the Chandra X-ray Observatory has performed remarkably as one of NASA's "Great Observatories." Scientists using Chandra have made many discoveries about the cosmos, expanding our knowledge of everything from white dwarfs to black holes and beyond. The images in this tour are just a sample of the wealth of science that has been produced by Chandra, shown with optical and other multiwavelength data to place it in context of Sky in Google Earth. To view Chandra Sky, follow these four steps:

1. 
   To do so, you will have to first download and install the latest version of Google Earth. Instructions on how to install Google Earth can be found here.
2. 
   Next, click this link to save the "skytour.kmz" file to your desktop.
3. Double-click on the "skytour.kmz" file you downloaded. Google Earth will start, with the Chandra Tour pre-loaded.
4. 
   Click on the Saturn-shaped button at the top of your screen to switch to Google Sky mode.
5. 
   Look to the "Places" panel on the left-hand side of your screen to make sure that the "skytour.kmz" item is selected. Finally, click on the triangular "Play Tour" button and enjoy.
