Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 5 June 2026 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Real-time procedures were executed on Jun 3 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer and to perform a diagnostic dump of the Control Processing Electronics (CPE).

Chandra press and image releases were issued on Jun 4 describing observations of the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way, Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*). The images combine data from Chandra with data from the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA). Using several years of highly detailed ALMA observations, astronomers mapped cold gas within just a few light years of Sgr A*. They uncovered a giant, cone-shaped hole in the cold gas, shown by Chandra to be filled with hot gas and pointing straight at the black hole - the unmistakable imprint of a large, hot, active wind launched from Sgr A*. For details, see: https://chandra.harvard.edu/press/26_releases/press_060426.html

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation Cyg X-1, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on May 30 and is coordinated with XRISM and an observations of LEDA 184063, which is a follow-up to a Target of Opportunity accepted on Apr 1.
