Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 14 July 2017 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Chandra passed through the seventh and eighth (and last) eclipse of the season on Jul 9 and 12 respectively with nominal power and thermal performance. Real-time procedures were executed on Jul 12 to disable SCS-29 and to dump and clear the EPS glitch counters as post-eclipse season actions.

Of note this week was the announcement on Jul 10 of the Cycle 19 Peer Review recommended programs. For details see:

A Chandra image release was issued on Jul 12 describing observations of the giant molecular cloud known as W51, one of the closest to Earth at a distance of about 17,000 light years. A composite image of W51 including data from Chandra and Spitzer shows that the X-ray emitting young stars are often clumped together closely and bathe their surroundings in high-energy light. For details see:

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of NGC 1313 X-1 coordinated with NuSTAR and an observation of CSS161010, which is a follow-up to a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity which was accepted on Dec 21.
