Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 5 April 2024 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A real-time procedure was executed on Mar 29 to clear a glitch counter that incremented during eclipse exit on Mar 28. This is a routine event possible following an eclipse.

Additional real-time procedures were executed on Apr 2 to disable SCS-29 and to dump and clear the EPS glitch counters as post-eclipse season actions.

Further real-time procedures were executed on Apr 3 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer and to perform a diagnostic dump of the CPE.

Chandra passed through the 29th and 30th (and final) eclipses of the season on Mar 31 and Apr 2 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance.

Of note this week was an announcement of the symposium "25 Years of Science with Chandra", to be held in Boston December 3-6, 2024. Also of note was the release on Apr 2 of the Chandra Source Catalog Release 2.1 (The 22-year Source Catalog), which covers roughly 730 square degrees of sky and contains 407,806 unique X-ray sources and 1,304,376 individual source detections identified in 15,533 Chandra ACIS and HRC-I imaging observations released publicly prior to the end of 2021. For details see: http://cxc.cfa.harvard.edu/csc/

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of SDSSJ095023.20+0246 coordinated with HET, observations of M87 coordinated with Event Horizon Telescope and NuSTAR, and observations of SgrA* coordinated with JWST, Event Horizon Telescope, and NuSTAR.
