During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. Chandra passed through the 8th and 9th eclipses of the season on Aug 18 and 20 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance. Of note this week was the release on Jun 6 of the CalDB version 4.12.2. The CalDB update includes an update to the time-dependent ACIS Gain (T_GAIN) files and the HRC-S QE Uniformity file set. For details see: https://cxc.cfa.harvard.edu/caldb/downloads/Release_notes/CALDB_v4.12.2.html A Chandra image release was issued on Aug 20 featuring MSH 15-52. A new composite image combines Chandra data with optical data and radio data obtained by the Australia Telescope Compact Array. The new image shows a spectacular view of a hand-shaped nebula known as MSH 15-52 and its associated supernova remnant. At the center of this image is a pulsar, a rapidly spinning neutron star, which is responsible for creating the nebula. For details see: https://chandra.si.edu/photo/2025/msh1552/ The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of SN2025sei, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Aug 11. |
