Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 10 July 2026 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A Chandra photo release was issued on Jul 9 describing observations of PSR J1101-6101, a pulsar located within the "Lighthouse" Nebula. Astronomers used data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory combined with NASA's IXPE (Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer) to directly measure the pulsar's magnetic field. Astronomers also studied two narrow offshoots extending from the pulsar to better understand how electrons traveling at nearly the speed of light interact with the surrounding environment. For details, see: https://chandra.si.edu/photo/2026/lighthouse/

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below, and includes an observation of EP260302a, which is a follow-up to a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity accepted on May 22, and an observation of AT2026fgk, which is a follow-up to a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity accepted on May 1.
