Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 25 August 2006 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Chandra passed through a penumbral lunar eclipse on 24 August with nominal power and thermal performance.

A real-time procedure was conducted on 24 August to test the HRC +Y shutter select function. During the test, three select/de-select cycles were run and confirmed full functionality of the relay. The test verified that after two years without use the +Y shutter has not been impacted by the same failure mode as the -Y shutter.

A Chandra media telecon was held on August 21 describing observations of the galaxy cluster 1E 0657-56 that provide direct evidence of the existence of dark matter. For details of this important release, see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2006/1e0657/
