Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 17 November 2006 7.00am EST

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A realtime procedure was completed on November 15 to update the on-board Ephemeris.

A Chandra press release was issued on November 15 describing observations of Cas A that have allowed astronomers, for the first time, to map the rate of acceleration of cosmic ray electrons in a supernova remnant. Results indicate that the electrons are being accelerated at close to the theoretically maximum rate. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/06_releases/press_111506.html

The schedule of targets for next week is shown below and includes the first of a series of 36 tiled observations that will comprise the 0.7 square deg, 1.8 Ms, COSMOS survey.
