Operations CXO Status Report

Saturday 16 October 1999 8.00am EST

During the last 24 hours Chandra completed the GTO observation of the Southern Deep Field with ACIS-I and entered the radiation belts. The ACIS FEP's and video boards were powered down by real-time commanding prior to belt entry. This procedure will be performed by the on-board loads for future passages to ensure a full reset of the FEPs.

Further assessment of data from front-end-processor (FEP)-0 of ACIS indicated that the unit has been producing an increased number of parity errors intermittently over the last few days and observations with ACIS will be made without use of this FEP while engineering analysis is being conducted. The ACIS parameter blocks to configure the appropriate CCD's and FEP's for the upcoming observations were completed and tested overnight and will be uplinked during additional real-time passes provided by DSN.

The new mission schedule began operation on-board at 12AM 10/16 as planned and is proceeding nominally. The spacecraft systems continued to operate nominally.
