Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 4 June 2004 8.30am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A real-time procedure was completed on June 1 to patch the angular momentum auto-unload threshold and dead-zone constants in CPE-A. The auto-unload threshold was raised to agree with the value in the OBC, while the dead-zone was raised to keep the duration of the unloads unchanged. This patch reduces the possibility of an unnecessary momentum unload shortly after safe-mode entry when the thermal environment of the MUPS thrusters is unconstrained.

A real-time procedure was completed on June 3 to patch the ACIS flight software. The uplink and comparison with ground image were completed nominally. The patch corrects an occasional error in raw-mode runs in which rows of CCD pixels were dropped from output telemetry and provides a modification that will allow for the future addition of timed-exposure modes without increasing code or testing complexity.

Two Chandra press releases were issued on Jun 1 and 2 in conjunction with the AAS meeting. The first made jointly with the Spitzer Science Institute and the Space Telescope discussed the Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey (GOODS), and the second describing evidence that a gamma-ray burst occurred in our Galaxy a few thousand years ago.
