Friday 26 June 2009 9.00am EDT
During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as
planned.
Chandra passed through the ninth, tenth and eleventh eclipses of the 2009 summer eclipse season on June 20, 23 and 25 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance. A Chandra press release was issued on June 24 as a NASA HQ media telecon. The release described a deep study of 29 gigantic blobs of hydrogen gas to identify the source of immense energy required to illuminate these structures. These new results show how the "Lyman-alpha" blobs fit into the cosmic story of how galaxies and black holes evolve. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/09_releases/press_062409.html The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of V2129 Oph coordinated with a ground based telescope at NOAO. |
