Friday 29 July 2005 8.30am EDT
During the last week the observing schedule was replanned to include
an observation of GRB050724 that was approved as a fast turn-around
Target Of Opportunity (TOO) on July 24. Loads were replanned and
uplinked on July 25. A portion of an observation of 3C 442A was
impacted by the TOO and will be rescheduled in a later load.
Chandra passed through the final eclipse of the 2005 summer season on July 23 with nominal power and thermal performance. A real-time procedure was executed on July 23 to disable SCS 29 as a standard action following the eclipse season. Of note this week was the transition from the GSFC serial Closed IONet used to interface with the DSN, to a direct TCP/IP-based T1 connection to JPL. The Closed IONet capability will be retained for a 30-day period in parallel with the direct JPL link. A Chandra image release was issued on 19 July describing observations of the binary system 47 Tuc W in the globular cluster 47 Tuc. The binary system contains a normal star and a millisecond pulsar and the observations shed light on the link between binary systems and the origin of millisecond pulsars. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2005/47tuc/ The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of 1H1426+428 coordinated with RXTE. |
