Ghost Cavities (Illustrations)

1. Radio Cavities In Galaxy Cluster
This illustration depicts a galaxy cluster with extensive bubbles of high energy particles billowing out from the vicinity of a supermassive black hole in the core of a centrally located galaxy. These bubbles can push aside hot gas in the galaxy cluster and produce voids, or cavities in the X-ray emission. See the animation!

2. Ghost Cavities and Magnetic Fields
As illustrated here, relics of ancient eruptions in the central regions of a galaxy cluster can show up as voids in the X-ray and radio emission of the cluster. These voids, which are probably filled with magnetic fields, shown here as the blue lines, may be the main source of magnetism of clusters. See the animation!
