Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 30 June 2017 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Chandra passed through the first, second, and third eclipses of the season on Jun 23, 26, and 28 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance.

A Chandra image release was issued on Jun 26 describing observations of two galaxies that have been in the process of merging for millions of years. New data from Chandra reveals 25 bright X-ray sources sprinkled throughout the concoction. Fourteen of these sources are embedded in star-forming regions and are such strong emitters of X-rays that they are categorized as "ultra-luminous X-ray sources," or ULXs. For details see:

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of MXB 1659-298, which is a follow-up to a Target of Opportunity accepted on Mar 17.
