Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 4 December 2020 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Chandra passed through the fifth, sixth, and seventh eclipses of the season on Nov 28, Nov 30, and Dec 3 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance.

Real-time procedures were executed on Dec 2 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer and to perform a diagnostic dump of the Control Processing Electronics (CPE).

Additional real-time procedures were executed during each ground contact to reset the DSN Outage Dead Man Load.

Chandra image releases were issued on Nov 30 featuring "sonified" representations of data on three extensively-studied, iconic cosmic objects: the Bullet Cluster, the Crab Nebula, and Supernova 1987A. The sonifications, made by combining data from Chandra with additional data from Hubble, Spitzer, and ground-based telescopes, represent astronomical information conventionally presented visually instead by a succession of sounds. The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observations of GW170817 coordinated with the VLA.
