Chandra X-ray Images of Flare in NGC 5128
Astronomers have found a pair of extraordinary objects that dramatically burst in X-rays. This discovery, obtained with NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and ESA's XMM-Newton observatory, may represent a new class of explosive events. These images shows the location of one of these objects in the NGC 5128 galaxy.

The two objects were both found in elliptical galaxies, NGC 5128 (also known as Centaurus A) shown here and NGC 4636. In this Chandra X-ray Observatory image of NGC 5128, low, medium, and high-energy X-rays are colored red, green, and blue.
